Bio
Plato Ellington (pronounced “plah-toe”) is the pseudonym of NYC-based musician Nick Ayala, an independent artist whose work spans a variety of guitar-centric subgenres (indie rock, garage, folk, anti-folk), and who lyrically touches on themes of self-doubt, self-destruction, escapism, and love. Despite the frequent exploration of darker topics, hope is often an undercurrent.
“My approach to songwriting is cathartic & personal, but I don’t think I’m examining anything that others won’t recognize in and around themselves.”
–Plato Ellington
A Brief History
The Plato Ellington project officially kicked off in 2020, but it wasn’t until late 2021 when an iPhone-recorded basement demo served as the formal public introduction.
In December 2023, Ayala collaborated with Nashville-based producer & drummer Jake Bartlett for the 2024 singles “Disco” and “Tonight,” and the subsequent “Tonight (Midnight Mix)” in 2025. All three tracks were mixed by Matt LeMay, and mastered by Alex Saltz at APS Mastering.
In 2025, Ayala linked up with Bartlett again—this time for a 10-track recording session, which resulted in an EP and several A-side/B-side singles (all upcoming). All 10 tracks were mixed by Vince Ratti, and mastered by Saltz.
